Police and health authorities are warning of a powerful synthetic drug which has left six people in Christchurch Hospital.

The illegal drug is known as N-Bomb or synthetic LSD and is a powerful hallucinogen.

Police say five people have been treated in A&E over the past week and one is in intensive care.

The drug causes confusion and hallucinations, and can lead to uncontrollable, violent behaviour.

Police warn it can be unpredictable and highly dangerous, and has led to deaths overseas.
