Advocacy group calls attention to hidden homeless

An Auckland advocacy group wants to highlight the hidden homeless population by launching Spotlight on Housing week.

Organiser Lee Hickey believes there are 35,000 people in New Zealand living in cars, garages, sleep outs and over-crowded homes.

"We know that street homelessness is on the rise," says Ms Hickey. "[There's] not so much talk around the hidden homeless, or that which we don't see. So we don't see the families living in parks."

The Housing Call to Action campaign runs all of this week with a number of events, activities and competitions.
