Auckland salesman 'traumatised' after robbery

A south Auckland door-to-door salesman has been left traumatised after a Crips gang member allegedly stole off him and posted a video of the whole incident online.

The video has been shared all over Facebook and police are now investigating.

Cold-calling is a risky business, but the relaxed and friendly door-to-door seller appears to have it down pat – until he picks the wrong home.

In the video he can be seen sitting in what appears to be a garage with two other men – one of whom starts to become aggressive.

Seconds later the self-confessed Manurewa gangster sees an opportunity to cash in.

"Empty your pockets, bro. Does it look like I'm playing bro? Empty your f***ing pockets," he tells the salesman.

His breathing gets heavier, and his victim's smile starts to fade.

"I don't have anything," the salesman says.

"You sure bro?" the man replies.

The TVs, entertainment products and furniture the salesman came to the house to try and sell on behalf of U-Buy are forgotten, as he gets frisked for not one but two cellphones.

While the victim was uninjured police say he is traumatised. Officers are now following strong leads in the case.

U-Buy says it's unable to comment while a police investigation is underway.

"We would expect the company training in particular to show these people how to ensure when they knock on the door, they don't know who's behind it," says Garth Wyllie of the Direct Selling Association.

"[So they need to] make checks and if they don't feel comfortable, walk away,"
