Police are not treating the disappearance of an Auckland student as suspicious, but are referring the matter to the coroner.

Mandeep Singh, 20, has not been seen since he left a bar in the viaduct in the early hours of Sunday morning.

He was asked to leave Bungalow 8 by staff after he became too intoxicated. Mr Singh spoke to a friend on the phone shortly after.

"Police do now know that Mandeep was seen on a pier in Queens Wharf just after 4am on Sunday morning and was alone at the time," says Detective Senior Sergeant Marcia Murray.

"So, at this stage, unless further information is received, we are not treating his disappearance as suspicious."

Police and the dive squad have been scouring the harbour for signs of the missing student, but have found nothing.
