The victim of a hunting incident yesterday afternoon has been named as 11-year-old Connor Brian Phillips from Reporoa.
Connor died in the Kaingaroa Forest, near Taupo, as an adult member of a hunting party was unloading a firearm at the end of the hunt.
A scene examination was undertaken yesterday and police will be speaking to a number of people as part of the on-going investigation.
A post mortem is due to take place today.
Police say they will not announce the outcome of the post mortem and no further comment is expected until the end of the investigation.
