Investigation after 5 trucks set alight in Christchurch

An investigation is underway after five trucks were set ablaze in the Christchurch suburb of Kaiapoi last night.

Canterbury firefighters were called to the Woodend Beach Rd property around midnight. There are reports the flames reached up to 12 metres high.

Detective Terry Falloon says the blaze is being treated as suspicious after five separate fires were lit in the cabs of the trucks, which are "seriously damaged."

A fire investigator has completed a scene examination this morning and police are waiting for an official report before releasing any more information.

Det Falloon says the surrounding area of the trucks shows the fire had been relatively intense.

No one was reported injured.
