Kiwi charged with Brisbane socialite's murder

A New Zealand man is in custody after being charged with the murder of Brisbane socialite Maureen Boyce.

Thomas Chris Lang, who had been staying with the former model, fronted Brisbane Magistrates Court briefly yesterday morning, a day after he was charged with her murder.

The 63-year-old Tauranga resident was remanded in custody and will next appear in court via video link on November 30.

The accused murderer, who is reportedly Mrs Boyce's ex-boyfriend, appeared close to tears in court and at one point slumped forward and rested his forehead on his hands.

Mrs Boyce's body was found in her Kangaroo Point penthouse on Thursday, with an autopsy later revealing she died from a single stab wound to the abdomen, according to police.

Lang, who was born in the United States, is a former doctor who had been living in New Zealand.

Police said he had been staying with Mrs Boyce for several weeks.

Her husband, who is also a doctor, has flown to Brisbane from his home in Cairns, News Corp reported.

Mrs Boyce was a successful model in the 1960s and 70s, then going by her maiden name Maureen Madden.

She was a regular on the Brisbane social calendar.
