A man arrested and charged during the search for Alex Fisher is due back in court.

The man, who has interim name suppression, is expected to reappear in Levin District Court this afternoon.

He faces one charge of unlawful possession of a knife and police have laid a new charge.

However, suppression orders mean details of the charge can't be made public.

The man volunteered to stay in custody.

Today's appearance will come the day after Alex's private funeral was held at the Salvation Army Worship and Community centre in Levin.

Alex's body was found on Waitarere Beach on Thursday, ending a three day search for him in the nearby forest.

Police immediately launched a homicide investigation into his death.

At the height of the search, around 130 search and rescue teams including the Defence Force, a helicopter and drone were looking for the Ohau School pupil.
