Police have released CCTV footage of an attempted robbery in Hamilton on Sunday.

The knife-wielding man entered the Bellbird Dairy on Norton Rd at around 8:25pm, says Detective Sergeant William Loughrin.

"The offender had his face covered as he entered and he threatened the sole female staff member before demanding cash," says Det Sgt Loughrin.

"A short time later he has run from the dairy without obtaining any money and was last seen heading north along Taniwha St."

Police say the man had been seen loitering around the dairy before the robbery, between 8pm and 8:25pm.

He is described as Maori or Polynesian of solid build, about 186cm tall.

"We have obtained very clear CCTV images of him and his clothing, which consisted of a red Chicago Bulls singlet with 'JORDON' and the number '23' on the back, a red-and-blue cloth item covering his face, black pants and black shoes."

Anyone with any information is urged to contact Det Sgt Loughrin on (07) 211 7325 or 021 190 2963 or contact the Fairfield Enderley Neighbourhood Policing Team Facebook page.
