Wellington students shaken after home invasion

Police in Wellington are investigating after a home invasion at a student flat in the weekend.

Four friends were socialising on Saturday night when they were interrupted by a knock at the door, says Detective Sergeant Haley Ryan.

When one of them opened the door he was confronted by two men armed with extendable batons who assaulted him and forced themselves into the house.

Police say the offenders then ordered all the students to lie on the floor of the lounge, while one stood over them and the other systematically went through the house finding items to steal.

The victims also had their cellphones taken off them so they couldn't call police.

One of the alleged offenders is described as a Caucasian male in his 20s, of skinny build and around 182cm tall. He had blonde hair that hung over his face and was wearing a grey hoodie.

Police say the other man was taller than his co-offender, had a scruffy beard and was wearing a black T-shirt.

The thieves made off with a number of electronic equipment, including laptops and a television.

"Police believe that due to the circumstances of this incident it is highly likely that other people will know about the aggravated burglary and/or know the identities of the two males who carried it out," says Det Insp Ryan.

She said it appears the students had been randomly victimised and were shaken as a result of the burglary.

Anyone with any information on the incident is asked to contact police.
