Arrest after string of Christchurch car crashes

Police have arrested a man after he allegedly caused several car crashes in Christchurch's eastern suburbs this evening.

The crashes began at around 6:30pm, when witnesses say the man's green Holden ute caused a crash in Linwood. The same ute reportedly continued to cause crashes as it travelled toward Sumner.

The driver allegedly drove at people trying to stop him. Police say there was damage to at least seven vehicles.

Victims were treated by ambulance at the scene, with no serious injuries.

The man was subdued with a Taser before being taken into custody. He will appear in the Christchurch District Court.
