Police have begun a scene examination of a Mt Albert property and questioning its occupants following the death of Nathan Pukeroa.

The 24-year-old was fatally attacked on the street a week ago.

The focus of the scene examination on Renton Rd is adjacent from the property where Mr Pukeroa and others were the night of the attack.

Police secured the neighbouring house yesterday evening and are expected to be at the home for at least a few days.

Detective Inspector Chris Cahill says they have learned valuable information over the past week with the help of witnesses and neighbours.

"Step by methodical step we have reached a point in the investigation where we believe 19 Renton Rd will assist us [and] progress the investigation further.

"Occupants of number 19 were accommodated by police last night and we will be speaking to them again today. The property is a rental and home to three people," he says.

A red Toyota, which had been painted black, was brought to police last night and returned to those associated with it.

Officers will continue with background inquiries and the area canvas in and around Renton Rd.

Anyone who has information helpful to investigators are urged to call Avondale CIB on (09) 820 5784, police on 111 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 55 111.
