Labour is backing the Government's move to award NCEA credits to high school pupils getting a driver's licence, but claims National stole its policy.

Eight credits will be allocated in total, divvied out as students pass the learners, restricted and full licence tiers.

MP Grant Robertson says the policy is half-baked.

"We're pleased they've looked at the idea," he says. "This does need proper support for the children and young students who really need to get access to licences."

He wants the Government to fund driving lessons and car simulators.
