A man known to police will appear in court tomorrow after he was seen allegedly trying car doors in the Mt Roskill Countdown car park, in Auckland this morning.
Just after 8am a member of the public notified police of the 30-year-old man, and the Auckland District Command Centre was able to train CCTV cameras on the suspect, identify him and track him until a patrol arrived and arrested him.
He will appear at the Auckland District Court tomorrow morning where his bail will be opposed.
"This highlights the value and expertise of our District Command Centre, especially the skill and expertise of our camera operator who was able to direct our patrol to apprehend and prevent the well-known criminal from committing any further offences," says Auckland metropolitan commander Inspector Kerry Watson.
