A 25-year-old man has been arrested following the murder of Nathan Pukeroa in Mt Albert last week.

The accused is expected to appear in the Auckland District Court this afternoon.

He has also been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm in relation to Mr Pukeroa's 22-year-old friend, who was seriously injured during the incident.

Mr Pukeroa, 24, was killed in Mt Albert early on December 3 after he and his friend were attacked.

Meanwhile, police are continuing their scene investigation at 19 Renton Rd, and expect to be there for the next few days.

"Today's development is a very welcome one but there's still a lot of investigative and background work to do," says Detective Inspector Chris Cahill.

"We are, as usual, very appreciative of the assistance and support from the Mt Albert community over the past week and are relieved to be able to announce today's arrest."

Police say they are confident the weapon used to kill Mr Pukeroa is with them, after recovering several items today from the property.
