It's the summer staple – the petrol station pie; but now that's in for a shake-up with the introduction of a competition-winning vegan pie at Z stations nationwide.
Non-meat eaters will finally have a choice when it comes to picking a pie from the warmer with a Mexican Vegan pie going on sale from today.
The Mexican Vegan pie came out on top of the company's DIY Pie competition which attracted more than 4000 entries countrywide.
The competition asked people to submit and then vote on pie recipes and four of the top five entries contained no animal products.
Z committed to making and selling one of the top five pies at is Z Espress stations.
The judges say the winning recipe had a depth of Mexican flavours and believe it will not only give vegans an option for a Kiwi staple, but also be appealing to a "broader range" of customers.
The pie will be on sale until January 24.
