A 45-year-old man has died after his car collided with a logging truck on State Highway 1, south of Whangarei this morning.
Emergency services were called to the scene around 7:15am on Smeatons Hill, south of Portland Rd. Police said it appears the driver lost control of his car driving northbound, and crossed the centreline, entering the path of the southbound logging truck.
The man, who was the sole occupant of the car, died at the scene.
Both lanes are blocked and delays are expected for the next two hours. Diversions are in place on SH1 on Mangapai Rd and Maungakaramea Rd.
