A 20-year-old man has drowned at a popular swimming hole in Kerikeri this evening.
The young man and three of his friends travelled from Kaikohe to Charlies Rock around midday and started swimming a few hours later.
Some time later, the victim's friends realised he was missing. His clothing was later found on the rocks.
Divers found his body in the water at around 6:40pm.
The victim's family are at the scene, and victim support has been offered. A local kaumatua has blessed the area.
Police say there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and the matter will now be referred to the coroner.
