Forty fire crew, six trucks and two helicopters were used to battle the fire, which broke out last night.

The blaze left half a hectare of charred, blackened scrub scarring the face of the mountain.

Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Turner said police are aware that there were a number of persons on the mountain last night, including several mountain bikers.
