Daniel Kereopa is used to catching waves, but now he and his partner Renee are making waves of their own – setting up a surf school at one of Auckland's beaches.
Orewa's baby waves are a far cry from the swells Kereopa has ridden.
But after years of competing in the Surfing World Qualifying Series and winning titles in stand-up paddleboarding and longboarding, he says he's ready to bring it home.
"Over the sort of 25-year journey of me surfing, I need to give back all the knowledge I've learned from surfing and give it back to the kids."
