Police are investigating the violent assault of a man in Whangamata, Coromandel who was trying to help save another man from an attack.
A 22-year-old man was punched, knocked to the ground and had personal items stolen after he tried to help a man who was being attacked by two other men, police say.
The attack happened at the intersection of Ocean Rd and Barbara Ave around 1:30am on Tuesday.
Police would like to identify the man who was first attacked as they believe he will have vital information.
