New Zealander Bunny McDiarmid has been named as co-leader of Greenpeace International.
She led Greenpeace New Zealand for 10 years and former Green Party co-leader Dr Russel Norman took over that role after leaving Parliament last year.
Ms McDiarmid and American Jennifer Morgan will become the international organisation's executive directors on April 4. They're the first women to lead the international organisation.
Board chair Ana Toni said both women were proven leaders who could do the job on their own but Greenpeace had decided to seize an opportunity to have co-leaders.
Ms McDiarmid started as a deckhand on the original Rainbow Warrior protest vessel and has been a campaign leader in the Pacific.
