Road spikes stop stolen Christchurch car

Police have made two arrests after using road spikes to stop a stolen car which then crashed into a Christchurch chemist.

The Subaru impreza had been stolen and, according to the pharmacist, two people jumped out and tried to flee when it crashed.Police arrested them after a short foot-chase.

The incident occurred on Colombo St around midday. A number of items of interest were seized following a search of the vehicle.

A 28-year-old man Christchurch man is charged with unlawfully being in a motor vehicle and a 22-year-old man Christchurch man has been charged with reckless driving and unlawfully taking a motor vehicle.

Both are due to appear in Christchurch District Court tomorrow.
