5 arrested in for drugs, firearms in Taihape sting

Police have arrested five people following the execution of search warrants in the Taihape area.

As a result of one of the search warrants, the Armed Offenders Squad, arrested a 29-year-old man on domestic violence and firearms charges.

He was due to appear in the Whanganui District Court today.

Along with his arrest, a 36-year-old woman and a 38-year-old woman were arrested on drug-related offences and a 27-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man were also taken into custody for various firearms and drug-related charges.

All of the arrested offenders were to appear before the Taihape District Court today.

Detective Senior Sergeant Neil Forlong says the sting was part of an initiative to remove drugs and firearms from the community.

He says members of the public are urged to get in touch if they know of anybody who is illegally supplying or obtaining drugs or firearms.
