Police aren't looking for anyone else in relation to a body found near a burnt-out car in Lower Hutt this morning.

As their investigation into the incident continues, they believe they know who the person is, but a formal identification still needs to take place.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Hill Rd in the Belmont Regional Park around 7:30am to find a car "fully engulfed" in flames.

The fire was put out and Inspector Terry van Dillen says the body was found "not far out of the car".

Police inquiries are continuing at the remote scene and they will be working to formally confirm the person's identity over the coming days.

Earlier today Insp van Dillen said police were "pretty comfortable" with who the car belonged to.

Information from the pathologist and post-mortem will likely be released next week.
