Parents told not to tell kids about 'stranger danger'

Parents, grandparents and kids around the country would have felt for the family of the young five-year-old who was abducted in Palmerston North last week.

It makes you think what we need to do to keep our kids safe.

Well, apparently the latest advice is not to tell kids about "stranger danger". That's right – not telling them to beware of strangers.

The term is considered outdated and, in some circumstances, a child may even need to speak to a stranger for help.
