Teen charged over Paritutu Rock fire

A teenage boy has been charged with intentional damage following a fire on New Plymouth's Paritutu Rock.

The fire overnight on February 5 destroyed vegetation the size of a rugby field. Firefighters, with the help of some rain, put the fire out.

It is believed the fire started after someone let off fireworks.

Police today have confirmed they have arrested a 17-year-old and he will appear in the New Plymouth District Court on Wednesday.
