Accused Palmerston North kidnapper faces court

Brendan Henson

A man alleged to have abducted a five-year-old girl from a Palmerston North street can now be named.

Brendan Paul Henson appeared before Judge Gregory Ross in Palmerston North District Court this afternoon. He faces two charges of indecent assault against a female under 12 and one charge of abduction.

Name suppression was lifted during today's appearance.

The girl was taken from Shamrock St on her way to school around 8:30am on February 12, and was found by a 91-year-old man about three hours later on Hind Pl -- around 4km from where she was taken.

But while the girl was found safe and well, police continued for some time to search for a white car believed to be involved in the incident.

Henson was ordered to remain in custody and will reappear in court later this month.
