Fisherman washed out to sea named

Police have released the name of a 51-year-old fisherman who died after being pulled into the ocean at the mouth of Clarence River in Marlborough.

Michael Dean Coates was fishing when he was hit by a wave and washed out to sea shortly before 10am yesterday.

Police have referred his death to the coroner.
