Flames lit in just 32 seconds

Story decided to burn down a house and to put me in it while it was burning down.

It's an exercise Story has been training for weeks with the New Zealand Fire Service, and one the Fire Service does regularly as part of training.

A fire can start within seconds and the speed at which it can move is scary.

Between 2012 and 2013, 20 people died in avoidable fires across NZ and there were nearly 22,000 genuine fire calls in that time.

Most were miscellaneous fires that involved BBQs, skips or camp fires.

A house fire caused by unattended cooking is most likely to occur on a Wednesday between 5pm and 6pm, and the probability of a fire happening in a lounge or sitting room is highest on a Monday between 6pm and 7pm.

This is about fire safety and to strongly encourage Kiwis to put smoke alarms in their house and to know what their escape plan is.
