British Formula 1 superstar Lewis Hamilton has slammed Auckland's SkyCity casino on social media, saying they treated him "like dirt", and urging others not to go there.

In a post on Twitter last night, Hamilton said: "Don't ever go to the sky city casino in Auckland, they treated me like dirt. Can't believe how rude they were. Worst casino experience ever!"

Hamilton has over three million followers on Twitter. The tweet generated 169 retweets and 247 likes before it was taken down around midnight.

A SkyCity spokesperson said: "SkyCity is very sorry to hear Lewis Hamilton didn't enjoy himself at our casino last night -- we pride ourselves on providing an excellent level of service to all our customers.  We are following up with Mr Hamilton to get further details of his experience."

The company also tweeted a response.

The three-time champion made a surprise touchdown in New Zealand yesterday, ahead of the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne this week.

He was booked to stay at the SkyCity Grand Hotel. It is unknown if he is still staying there.
