Police are reviewing a video taken by Formula 1 star Lewis Hamilton apparently showing him using a phone while riding a motorbike down an Auckland motorway.

Hamilton's visit here already had tongues wagging, after he criticised SkyCity Casino in a tweet.

Lewis Hamilton stopped for a bit of lunch in Arrowtown -- a tourist hotspot.

He received attention for his tweet about SkyCity yesterday -- today though, enjoyed some anonymity.

It's been an action packed Wednesday for the Formula 1 superstar -- checking out the Southern Alps by helicopter and keeping his Snapchat fans up to date with every move.

But it's his video, taken in Auckland yesterday, that could have seen Hamilton land himself in a bit of hot water.

Using a cell phone while driving, illegal here since 2009, got Hamilton the attention of the New Zealand Police.

They told Newshub today they've reviewed the footage and will not be taking further action.

"Auckland City Police will be taking no further action in relation to recent media publicity about Lewis Hamilton and his motorcycle journey in Auckland. The video footage available does not provide us with sufficient enough evidence that an offence has occurred," a police spokesperson told Newshub.

They said use of a mobile phone while driving is a big distraction -- especially while on a motorbike.

It's the second incident to make headlines here after his tweet criticising SkyCity Casino the day before.

Hamilton stuck to the private chopper today to do his travelling today.

Due in Melbourne for the Australian Grand Prix tomorrow, it's safe to say there'll be no Snapchatting-and-driving, from Hamilton there.
