2 South Island blazes keep fire crews busy overnight

Fire crews are working to clean up after two late night blazes in the South Island.

There was a house fire in Darfield just before midnight -- nobody was injured, and the property was empty at the time.

But Fire Service shift manager Andrew Norris says at around 11:30pm, six crews were called to another fire in the industrial port building at Bluff.

"Bluff units on arrival established a large building of approximately 110 metres long by 40 metres wide was well involved with fire."

Crews are still at the scene of that blaze, dampening down hot spots.
