25yo desperate for her perfect match

25yo desperate for her perfect match

Ricki-Lee is 25 years old and desperately searching for her perfect match.

This sounds like a season of The Bachelor, but this story is real life and it's getting really urgent.

In Invercargill, Ricki-Lee is on standby for a kidney donor and she has a dialysis machine doing the work her kidneys cannot.

She is one of around 450 Kiwis needing a new kidney and 147 transplants were performed last year.

Her parents cannot gift a kidney to their daughter for health reasons and her friends aren't a match.

Only one person is needed to help Ricki-Lee and anyone who wants to donate a kidney, not specifically to Ricki-Lee but to anyone on the waiting list, would make a huge difference.

Ricki-Lee's advice is to let your family know if you want to be a donor because family can overrule what is ticked on your driver's license -- putting it in your will is leaving it far too late.

New Zealand has one of the lowest organ donation rates worldwide and the Ministry of Health review is hoping for a solution which could include paying donors more.

Ricki-Lee continues to wait for her match -- could it be you?
