Aggravated robbery of Petone bank

An investigation is underway following an aggravated robbery of a Lower Hutt bank this afternoon.

Police are appealing for sightings of a man who allegedly committed the robbery at the BNZ bank on Jackson St, Petone around 12pm.

The man is described as being of Maori or Pacific descent, with a stocky build and was wearing a light-coloured top, dark pants and a black beanie. He also had a bag slung over his shoulder.

After leaving the scene, the man walked east along Jackson St.

Anyone who saw the man fitting this description or who has any other information should call Lower Hutt Police on (04) 560 2600.

BNZ spokesperson, Nicole O'Brien, told Newshub the company is working to support those affected.

"I can confirm no customers or staff were hurt," says Ms O'Brien.

"Our number priority right now is that our staff and customers are safe and have the support they need."
