Members of the Police Armed Offenders Squad have used a supermarket carpark as a base while they conducted a search of a clan lab.

The Countdown carpark in the suburb of Otumoetai was closed off by police as specialist groups executed a search warrant on an adjacent property.

A spokesperson for Countdown says police wouldn't say what they were doing they just asked to use the car park for the morning.

Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Turner says police are talking with the two occupants of the house and a scene examination will take place throughout the day.

The Countdown carpark is now open.
