Mysterious blanket could help locate guns

Northland Police are looking for help from the public to find a red blanket, in hopes it could hold clues to assist in a high-powered firearms robbery case.

A red polyester- velvet type blanket went missing and investigators believe it may have been used to carry guns away from a Dargaville gun collector's home where 15 firearms were stolen from.

Detective Inspector Kevin Burke says the blanket may have been seen by a family member or a friend, or could have been dumped.

"We realise the photo of the blanket isn't the best, but let us be very clear; these high-powered firearms are in the hands of criminals, we are doing everything we can to identify and locate the offender/s and to get these guns off them, but we need public assistance. It's not just any old blanket, it could help us to solve this very serious case," he says.

If you think you may have seen this blanket contact the Whangarei Police on 09 430 4520, or anonymously call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
