Police have arrested a 36-year-old man following a shooting in Mangere, south Auckland yesterday morning.
The alleged offender was located in the Rodney area and has been charged with attempted murder.
He is to appear in Manukau District Court tomorrow.
The victim, 35-year-old Hemi Hingaia, remains in Middlemore Hospital in critical condition today.
Yesterday police said they were on the hunt for Billy Matara, 36, a member of the Head Hunters gang in east Auckland.
