Passersby on the Auckland Harbour Bridge glimpsed an unusual sight at around 2pm this afternoon.
Auckland police Inspector Tony Edwards confirmed some people were transporting furniture when an armchair came loose and fell off the vehicle.
"They decided to let one of them out to stand by with the armchair. Rather than move it, they sat there."
Police say the man was planning on waiting for his friends to return and pick him up from the middle of the bridge.
He was moved on by motorway support instead.
Police say there is no connection between this incident and reports of a man falling from Auckland Harbour Bridge this afternoon.
