Police may have found a lead in the armed robbery of a truck transporting money from banks in Auckland's CBD.

It comes after they released a picture of man they believe can help their investigation.

Around 2.15pm on January 8, two security officers who had just collected the days takings from a nearby bank were approached by a lone person with a firearm on the corner of Darby and Queen Streets.

The offender got away with a large amount of cash in a stolen vehicle, which was later found a short distance away.
