Rock climber injured in Canterbury

A climber has fallen down a cliff in Banks Peninsula near Christchurch.

St John Ambulance was alerted to the accident in Orton Bradley Park at about 5pm today, a spokesman said.

The male climber, aged in his 20s, was seriously injured and was flown to Christchurch Hospital by the Westpac rescue helicopter, the spokesman said.

He is affiliated with a local rock climbing club, The Press reports.
