Security measures have foiled armed robbers getting away with a lot of cash from a Christchurch TAB.
Two men entered the back door of the Merivale TAB yesterday evening, jumped the counter and one pointed a pistol at a staff member, police say.
"Due to the security measures in place they were unable to access cash other than a small amount from the till and then left," said Detective Sergeant Chris Power.
Both men had their faces covered.
The armed man was described as Maori or Polynesian, in his 20s, about 180cm tall, wearing a grey sweatshirt with blue sleeves. Staff could see one eye, which was grey-ish-green.
The other man was described in a similar way but 170cm tall and wearing a black hoodie with a white motif.
