Drivers urged to take care in wintry conditions
Road snowfall warnings are in place for the North Island's Desert Road, with snow showers expected this morning. The cold snap is expected to continue around the country, and the MetService says the southerly front may bring snow down to 500 metres in some places. The lower North Island was lashed by heavy rain and strong winds last night, disrupting traffic on both the main highways into Wellington.

A slip on State Highway 58 between James Cook Drive and Spinnaker Drive in Wellington has reduced the road down to one lane. Drivers are warned to expect delays. Newshub.
