A father who murdered his five-month-old daughter has been jailed for at least 17 years.
Troy Solomon, 26, has been jailed for life with the 17-year minimum non-parole period after the death of Aaliyah Izabella Betty Solomon.
He was sentenced in the High Court at Auckland on Tuesday.
Aaliyah died from what Crown prosecutors described as "catastrophic head injuries" at her family home in Pukekohe, south of Auckland, in August 2014.
She also suffered a serious fracture to her femur.
Defence barrister Philip Hamlin said during the trial that Solomon accepted responsibility for his daughter's death but claimed it was "a terrible accident".
Solomon, it was argued, left the bathroom briefly and returned to discover Aaliyah under the water and as he pulled her out she slipped and fell.
But a jury took just three hours to find Solomon guilty of murder, believing the prosecution argument that Solomon became frustrated with the baby and lashed out.
