Black market fishery ring member sentenced

The middle man in a black market fishery ring has been fined $15,000 and will serve four months community detention.

Derek Sutton Yee was sentenced in the Christchurch High Court on Wednesday for his part in the seafood ring dealing in paua and crayfish.

He's also been ordered to serve 100 hours community work and to pay $130 court costs.

Yee and two others were caught in an undercover investigation by the Ministry for Primary Industries called Operation Dragon.

The other two men will be sentenced in September.
