They're the cars of the future, great for the environment and cost-effective so why have electric cars not taken off in New Zealand?
There are still only 14,000 fully electric vehicles on our roads and now the Government wants people to invest in electric cars with the goal of 64,000 vehicles on the road within five years.
They are even making law changes to allow electric cars to be legal on a bus lane if the local council agrees.
So how will Kiwis catch the electric car bug?
Story went to meet local electric car enthusiasts who prove they are cost-efficient and convenient and one particular electric car nut who's a bit of rock star in their circles.
