Around 300 police officers have formed a guard of honour outside Christchurch's St Mary's Cathedral to farewell fallen colleague Richard Ryan.
The long-serving Senior Sergeant died on Tuesday morning after a battle with kidney and bone cancer.
There was a lone salute as the hearse passed through the formation, which stretched for 200 metres along Manchester St in the city centre. Eleven dog handlers joined the procession, led by a police officer playing bagpipes.
A public fundraiser has raised $50,000 for his family, including his four children.
