Lewis Road Creamery, whose chocolate milk sent Kiwis into a frenzy, has released its latest flavour.

It was dreamt up with the help of chef Chelsea Winter, and combines Lewis Road Creamery milk with caramel and butterscotch - aptly called double caramel.

"The idea to partner with [Chelsea] on this particular product was inspired by a recipe she created using our sea salt butter," Lewis Road founder Peter Cullinane says.

"Chelsea made this amazing salted caramel slice, and when we tried it we knew we wanted to get her on board."

The flavour announcement was made in Ashburton on Monday morning. The town won an online competition to be the first to taste it, beating more than 10,000 people.

Ms Winter described the milk as "insanely good".

"Watching the first batch roll along the production line was a pretty special moment for me. This is the first time I have partnered with a producer to develop a product with my name on it," she says. "I can't wait for people to try it."

Lewis Road's chocolate milk made international headlines for selling out as soon as it hit shelves. The company had to increase its 4000-litre run per week to 20,000 litres to meet demand.

The double caramel milk hits supermarkets nationwide on Wednesday, July 6.
