An investigation has uncovered details of a people smuggling attempt taking refugees from Tamil Nadu to New Zealand.
The Colombo Gazette reports the operation promised Sri Lankan Tamil refugees jobs in New Zealand and were ready to ferry 100 people before they were busted.
Two people have been arrested and a 75-foot boat has been seized.
Intensive patrolling via the use of speed boats and intensive supervision of the coastline has been the demise of other smuggling attempts.
