A transgender girl who was barred from using female bathrooms at her all-girls' school, can now use them.

Marlborough Girls' College had asked 16-year-old Stefani Muollo-Gray to use the school's unisex toilets while it reviewed its bathroom policy in June.

Ms Muollo-Gray gained attention after starting a petition telling Education Minister Hekia Parata she should be allowed to use the toilets.

The college says during the enrolment process the leadership met with her family several times "to ensure a successful transition" into the school.

Ms Muollo-Gray said the school had wanted her to use unisex bathrooms but there were only four "at the outskirts of the school".
